Adding a teen driver without overpaying

Adding a teen to an existing policy is rarely as simple as a phone call. Carriers distinguish between listed drivers, excluded drivers, and permissive users, and a misfiled status can void a claim entirely.
Good student discounts, driver education credits, and telematics programs exist at most carriers, but they are rarely applied automatically. You have to ask.
Vehicle assignment matters. Assigning a teen to the lowest-value car in the household typically produces the lowest premium, even if they share use of all vehicles.
